Matthew first ERG at almost one year was extinguished revealing his eyes only responded to intense light and disclosed severely abnormal responses of both rods and cones that were typical for peroxisomal biogenesis disorders. By the time he was two he was reaching for things within his visual field. At nine years of age he was reading, using his center vision well and also responding to images in his peripheral fields. Due to the DHA-EE supplementation Matthew never developed the retinitis pigmentosa or nystagmus typical of Peroxisomal Biogenesis Disorders, Zellweger’s Syndrome.
